Cal State Northridge competed in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The 1979 Matadors were led by first-year head coach Tom Keele. They played home games at Devonshire Downs in Northridge, California. Cal State Northridge finished the season with a record of three wins and seven losses (3–7, 1–1 CCAA).
