The race was won by René Arnoux driving a Ferrari, his second win in three races (after his win in Canada) bringing him into championship contention. Andrea de Cesaris in an Alfa Romeo 183T and Riccardo Patrese in a Brabham-BMW completed the podium. Niki Lauda was disqualified for reversing his McLaren-Ford in the pits.
