Arantxa Sanchez Vicario was the defending champion, but she lost in the fourth round to Mary Joe Fernandez.

Steffi Graf defeated Monica Seles 7-6^(8–6), 0–6, 6–3 in the final to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1995 U.S. Open.

It marked the first time Graf and Seles would meet in a U.S. Open final. It was also the first Grand Slam entrance of Seles since her 1993 Stabbing.
