During the 1997–98 English football season, Reading F.C. competed in the Football League First Division. It was their first season under new manager Terry Bullivant, but due to poor results, Bullivant was sacked in March 1998. Alan Pardew was caretaker-manager for seven days before the club appointed Tommy Burns.
The 1997–98 season was another struggle for Reading, as they sucomed to relegation to the Second Division
