On February 15, the Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan was taken by Turkish security forces from Greek Embassies in Nairobi and Kenya, where he had looked refuge. He had shown up in a couple airports, including the one in Athens. He had been looking for asylum but was unsuccessful by doing so. Many of the Greeks were enraged that Ocalan had been taken from Greek protection. They became humiliated by the Turks treatment of their prisoner. This left many people wondering if they should have even offered him refuge from the start. This ultimately led to the resignation of public officials and new public officials were added in. Such as Georgios Papandreou who became the foreign minister, and Vaso Papandreou became the interior Minister.
