The Hawthorn Football Club's 2012 season was its 88th season in the Australian Football League (AFL).
After losing a close Preliminary Final against Collingwood, the club opted to trade early picks in the draft for established players. Jack Gunston of Adelaide wanted to be traded to Hawthorn so a deal was arranged. Jarrad Boumann who once was on the Western Bulldogs list was selected in three way trade that sent Jordan Lisle to the Brisbane Lions.
