The 2016–17 season was Aizawl F.C.'s second season in the I-League since its establishment in 1984. Aizawl won 2016–17 I-League.
Aizawl were promoted to the top division after winning 2015 I-League 2nd Division. However, they finished last in 2015–16 I-League and would have been relegated.
As one of the top 8 teams of 2016–17 I-League, Aizawl qualified for Federation Cup.
