Ailuroedus is a genus of birds in the Ptilonorhynchidae family (bowerbirds). The common name, catbird, refers to these species' "wailing cat-like calls".Ailuroedus likewise is from the Greek for "cat-singer" or "cat-voiced".
Martin Irestedt and colleagues examined the species in detail morphologically and genetically in a 2016 paper, leading to the recognition of seven new species to take the total from three to ten species.
