Al-Shamal Stadium (Arabic: ملعب الشمال) is a proposed football stadium which will be built in Ash-Shamal, Qatar in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With a capacity of 45,120, it will be one of the largest stadiums in Qatar. It is set to be opened in the summer of 2017.
The shape of the Al-Shamal Stadium is derived from the traditional dhow, the local fishing boats commonly used in Arab States of the Persian Gulf, and appears from afar as a boat on the shore waiting to launch. Post FIFA World Cup, the modular upper tier of the stadium will be disassembled for shipment to developing countries.
