General Augusto Tasso Fragoso, better known as Tasso Fragoso (São Luiz, Maranhão August 28, 1869 – September 20, 1945) was a Brazilian soldier and author. He led a coup d'etat that deposed Washington Luís Pereira de Sousa on 24 October 1930 and prevented president-elect Julio Prestes from assuming the presidency of the Republic of Brazil. He was chief of the Provisional Governing Council (Junta Governativa Provisória) which handed the presidency to Getúlio Vargas on 3 November 1930.
