The Australian Hard Court Championships was a former professional tennis tournament established in 1938 until 2008 the event was originally played on clay courts until 1977 before switching to hard courts. The tournament was a combined event for men and women until the end of the 1980s. The championships were occasionally held in conjunction with other tournaments particularly the latter part of it's history. In 2009 Tennis Australia merged the separate men's and women's tournaments into a new combined tournament called the Brisbane International . The national championships existed for sixty three years.
The Australian Men's Hard Court Championships the event began in Sydney in 1938 the tournament was originally played on Clay court's until 1977. Throughout it's history the championships were hosted in various cities around Australia. In 1978 the event is switched to hard courts and continues to be played on that surface till 1987. In 1999 the national title is held in conjunction with the AAPT Championships until 2004. In 2005 the national title is held in conjuction with the Adelaide Next Generation Hard Courts . From 2006 until 2008 the national title is held in conjuction with the Adelaide Next Generation International . In 2006 Tennis Australia announces that the tournament will move Brisbane in 2009. In 2008 the tournament in Adelaide is discontinued and is merged into a new combined tournament called the Brisbane International.
The Australian Women's Hard Court Championships the event began in Sydney in 1938 the tournament was originally played on Clay court's until 1977. Throughout it's history the championships were hosted in various cities around Australia. In 1978 the event is switched to hard courts and continues to be played on that surface till 1987. In 1989 the event was held in conjunction with the Danone Australian Hardcourt Championships until 1994. It was not staged from 1995 to 1997 but re-merged as a womens's only event called the Thalgo Australian Women's Hard Courts until 2003. The event was not staged again between 2004 and 2005. In 2006 it was staged as Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts until 2008. In 2009 the tournament the Mondial tournament was discontinued and was merged into a new combined tournament called the Brisbane International.
The Men's event had a number of different sponsors such as Eurovox , Goldair .
