Previous names Pera

Beyoğlu (formally known as Pera) is the northern terminus of the Tünel funicular railway in Istanbul. Opened on 17 January 1875, it is the oldest underground station on an urban rail line (along with Karaköy) in Turkey as well as continental Europe and among the oldest in the world.

When Tünel opened in 1875 the line was heavily used by Ottoman citizens as it connected two vital areas of the city during that time. Passenger traffic isn't as great as it used to be but it is still a well used means of transport to Karaköy. Beyoğlu station along with Karaköy station and the Tünel line in general is a big tourist attraction. The station was originally built with two tracks but has since been reduced to one.
