Silicon Valley is an American comedy television series created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. The series focuses on five young men who founded a startup company in Silicon Valley. The series premiered on April 6, 2014 on HBO.
The series has been renewed for a fifth season which will premiere on March 25, 2018.
Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) is a shy, reclusive programmer who works at a large internet company called Hooli in San Francisco. He is also developing a music player website which can certify whether your music is copyright or not, known as Pied Piper, in a live-in startup business incubator run by entrepreneur Erlich Bachman (T.J. Miller) who sold his airline aggregation software known as Aviato for millions of dollars. Hendricks sends a demo link for Pied Piper to a pair of programmers at Hooli who feign interest, and then mock him. Later, Hendricks makes a rocky post-TED elevator pitch of Pied Piper to venture capitalist Peter Gregory (Christopher Evan Welch). Within hours, however, Hooli executive Donald "Jared" Dunn (Zach Woods) and Gregory's assistant Monica (Amanda Crew) separately discover that the app contains a revolutionary data compression algorithm. This leads to a bidding war between Hooli CEO Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) and Gregory to acquire Pied Piper.
Hendricks chooses Gregory's offer to grow Pied Piper. He hires the residents of the incubator including Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) and Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani) along with Dunn, who defects from Hooli, to become the Pied Piper team. However, Hendricks' best friend Nelson "Big Head" Bighetti (Josh Brener) chooses to accept a substantial promotion at Hooli instead, having been offered it by Belson in response to Dunn's poaching, despite Big Head's obvious lack of merit for the job.
