William Edward "Bill" Dole, Sr. (July 5, 1909 – February 7, 1966) was a head coach of the East Carolina (1949–1951) and Davidson College college football (1952-1964) programs. Throughout his time at the East Carolina University, he had successfully rebuilt the football team into a successful playing team. In 1952, Dole was appointed as the head coach of Davidson College. Not long after his time spent at Davidson, disaster struck. The beloved Bill Dole died in his car at the age of 56, near his apartment in North Carolina, due to a heart attack on February 7th, 1966.
