California's 42nd State Assembly district is one of 80 California State Assembly districts. It is currently represented by Republican Chad Mayes of Yucca Valley.
The district straddles the gateway between the Inland Empire and the California desert. Much of the district's population is concentrated on the Interstate 10 corridor between Yucaipa in the west and the Coachella Valley in the east.
