The English and Foreign Languages University known as EFLU is a university for English and foreign languages located in Hyderabad. It is only such university dedicated to languages in South Asia.
The university offers the study of English and foreign languages like Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Turkish in the areas of Teacher Education, Literature, Linguistics, Interdisciplinary and Cultural Studies.
EFLU, Hyderabad, was founded in 1958 as the Central Institute of English by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister." It was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in 1972 with the addition of three major foreign languages – German, Russian and French. The Educational Media Research Center (EMMRC) was established at CIEFL at 1984. In 2006, CIEFL received central university status, renamed to English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), by an act of the Parliament.
Dedicated to the study of English and foreign languages, it was set up to conduct advanced research and training in English and foreign languages, in areas of Teacher Education, Literature, Linguistics, Interdisciplinary, and Cultural Studies.
This is the main campus, situated in the heart of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. This is the oldest of the campuses of this university. The campus has 7 schools with 26 departments, which offers the following courses. The EFL University has 7 schools and 26 Departments. Apart from graduate, postgraduate, and Research programmes, EFLU offers postgraduate diplomas, and distance and part-time mode courses.
The postgraduate EFLU 2018 courses offered by the university include M.A in English, English Literature, Literatures in English, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, English Language Teaching, JMC, Hindi, Computational Linguistics, Arabic Language & Literature, French Language & Literature, German Language & Literature, Hispanic Language & Literature, Russian Language & Literature, PGDTE in English and PGDTA in Arabic.
The Ramesh Mohan Library was established in 1958 to provide bibliographical, documentation and information support to the teaching and research programmes of the University. The Library moved into its new building in July 1988. The main objective of the Library is to provide information of books, journals, theses and other related documents relevant to the academic and research needs of the University. These materials are organised according to system of Dewey Decimal Classification on the shelves, and provides access to these materials through Online public access catalog (OPAC).
