The Conte Cabinet, led by Giuseppe Conte, is the 65th cabinet of the Italian Republic. The cabinet, a result of a political agreement between the Five Star Movement and the League, is also referred to as Government of Change (Italian: Governo del cambiamento) after the formal political agreement signed between the two parties, or Yellow-Green government (Italian: Governo gialloverde) based on the parties' official colours.
The government is supported and most of its members are provided by the two following parties.
The government is externally supported by the which had been recently joined by five deputies expelled from the M5S and one dissident senator from the South American Union Italian Emigrants (USEI); two senators expelled from the M5S and one deputy of Forza Italia (FI) are part of the majority, too.
Brothers of Italy (FdI), the linguistic minorities parties (Valdostan Union (UV), South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) and Trentino Tyrolean Autonomist Party (PATT)) and one deputy from USEI have announced that they are willing to vote for measures that reflect their respective ideologies.
The March 2018 general election resulted in a hung parliament, with the Five Star Movement (M5S) led by Luigi Di Maio that became the party with the largest number of votes and of parliamentary seats while the centre-right alliance in which Matteo Salvini's League emerged as the main political force won a plurality of seats in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate. The centre-left coalition, built around the Democratic Party (PD) led by former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, came third.
