Cries from Syria is a documentary film about the Syrian Civil War, directed by Evgeny Afineevsky, and acquired by HBO. It contains video shot by Syrians with and interviews with with freedom fighters, activists, journalists, defected military men, and refugees, some that are children.
In an interview Afineesky said, "I tried to put all these images in one context, to tell the story of the uprising, the civil war, the rise of ISIS, chemical weapons, intervention, to put a comprehensive story together about Syria, what’s brought this huge humanitarian crisis, this refugee crisis that our world hasn’t had since the Second World War. That was my goal. It’s not just that I was trying to bring the images together. I tried to put together a comprehensive story so that people can not only learn from the historical mistakes, but so people can reevaluate what we have on our hands."
