David M. Heyman (29 August 1891 - 7 January 1984) was an American financier and philanthropist who founded Public Health Research Institute of the City of New York in 1941 and the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York in 1947.

David Heyman was schooled in the New York City. After his school life, he attended the Mohegan Lake Military Academy in the Westchester County. In 1909, he went to Cornell University, however, he transferred later to Columbia University.

After graduating from University, he joined the board of a family foundation starting his career as an investment banker. However, he joined military service when the World War I broke out.

He retired in 1947 but still served on various city boards such as the Board of Health. He served as the Chairman of Mayor Wagner's Commission on Health Services and the New York Foundation's president from 1937 to 1966.

He is known for founding the Heyman Center for the Humanities at Columbia University, to make this happen he contributed $20 million.
