Dextromethadone is an antitussive opioid. It is the (S)-enantiomer of methadone.
D-Methadone acts as a N-methyl-D-aspartate NMDA receptor antagonist similar to Ketamine.
There is now an asymmetric synthesis available to prepare both dextromethadone [S-(+)-methadone] and levomethadone [R-(−)-methadone].
