Encantadia is a Filipino fantasy television series by GMA Network. It is a reboot (often called as requel or retelling-sequel) to the 2005 fantasy series of the same name. It previously starred Sunshine Dizon as Pirena, Amihan by Iza Calzado, Karylle as Alena and Danaya by Diana Zubiri. It is the fourth series of the Encantadia franchise and is 11 years apart from the third one. The show began airing on July 18, 2016 in the Philippines and worldwide through GMA Pinoy TV. It is also shown exclusively online through iflix at 1080p high-definition video as video on demand.
In 2016, the whole cast including the highly coveted roles of the Sang'gres were officially revealed on April 4, 2016 live in 24 Oras. The role of Sang'gre Amihan will be played by Kylie Padilla, Sang'gre Alena by Gabbi Garcia, Sang'gre Danaya by Sanya Lopez and Sang'gre Pirena by Glaiza de Castro. According to the director, Mark Reyes, the series was originally set to run until December 2016 but after its success it was extended until February 2017. Due to the show's consistent high ratings, GMA Network once again extended the series until April 2017. The consists highest ratings on the television, GMA Network for 3 times over extended until May 2017.
As of February 11, 2017, the series has 150 episodes. The 45th episode marked the end of the retelling of the original story in 2005 wherein Queen Amihan was dethroned by Pirena who headed a coup de etat against the Lireo Kingdom. The 46th episode embarked the beginning of the sequel in which new story line debut. The 149th episode marked the beginning of the second season of the series.
