Ethan Ampadu (born 14 September 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Chelsea. He is the son of ex-professional footballer Kwame Ampadu. Ampadu is eligible internationally for England, Ghana, Ireland and Wales; at the age of sixteen was called into the senior Wales squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Serbia in May 2017 having represented their under-19 and under-17 sides.
Ampadu is a product of the Exeter City youth academy. On 9 August 2016, aged 15 years 10 months and 26 days, he made his debut for Exeter in a League Cup match against Brentford, becoming the club's youngest ever player, breaking an 87-year-old record set by Cliff Bastin, and being named man of the match.
On 16 August 2016, he made his full league debut in a 1–0 home defeat against Crawley Town.
On 1 July 2017, Ampadu signed a contract with Premier League club Chelsea, with the transfer fee to be negotiated between Exeter and Chelsea. He will link up with the academy at Stamford Bridge.
Ampadu has played for Wales up to U19 level. He is also eligible to represent England, Ireland and Ghana. He is eligible to play for Wales as his mother is Welsh.
