Grottammare is a town and comune on Italy's Adriatic coast, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, Marche region. It receives over 500,000 tourists a year.
In 1994 the ruling Christian Democrats were ousted by a coalition known as Participation and Solidarity. It created a system of neighbourhood assemblies as a type of participatory democracy.
The town is crossed by the 43rd parallel north.
