Henry David Bolton, OBE (born 2 March 1963, Kenya) is a British politician who has been leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) since 29 September 2017. He is a former British Army officer and police officer who has worked in a number of roles related to border management strategies. He was awarded the OBE in 2013 for services to international security. He became UKIP leader after winning the party's 2017 leadership election.
Bolton served as a trooper and an NCO in the Royal Hussars from 1979 to 1990, in both the UK and Germany, before leaving the Army. He later joined the Territorial Army, and was commissioned in 1992 and promoted to captain in 1994. He left the Territorial Army in 1998.
Since leaving the regular army in 1990, he has undertaken security and policing roles. For eight years he was a police officer in the Thames Valley force, during which time he received an award for outstanding bravery. He worked with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, during which he seconded to hostile environments including Afghanistan. He has also spent three years working with the European Union in Common Security and Defence Policy roles.
He was awarded the OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours "for services to international security and stabilisation" as Stabilisation Team Leader, Provincial Reconstruction Team, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
