It is located at the underground of the south of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center (Chinese: 广州大学城), located on the Xiaoguwei Island (Chinese: 小谷围岛) in Xinzao Town (Chinese: 新造镇), Panyu District.
The station was previously called "Nanting Station" (Chinese: 南亭站) because of nearby Nanting Village (Chinese: 南亭村) on the island. But since May 2006, it changed name to Higher Education Mega Center South Station.
