Ian Hopkins, QPM is a senior British police officer. Since October 2015, he has been Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police.
In 1989, Hopkins joined Staffordshire Police as a constable and started his policing career. He has also previously worked for Northamptonshire Police and Cheshire Constabulary.
Hopkins was Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) between April 2008 and December 2011. On 11 January 2012, he was appointed Deputy Chief Constable of GMP. He served in that role until his promotion to Chief Constable and his appointment as head of the force. He also served as the national lead for Policing of Party Political Conferences and Digital Engagement within the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Hopkins was awarded the Queen's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in the 2016 Birthday Honours.
