Installer X is a package manager for iPhone OS 2 up to iOS 6 designed for legacy jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. Installer X is based on Installer 4, originally created by Ripdev, which allowed users to browse and download applications from a range of sources when the AppStore and Cydia hadn't been introduced yet. Installer X uses a different packaging system from Cydia's APT, and as a result, Installer X is faster than Cydia. Installer X is specifically designed for legacy Apple devices, with the legacy hardware in mind. Because of that, Installer X is a fully featured The Installer Project was announced on January 4, 2017, and has been in development since. On the July 22, 2017, Infini Dev released the files in order to create your own Installer X repository. 2 days later, the first packages were uploaded and tested. Positive progress has been reported ever since.

Installer.app was a freeware software installer for the iPhone created by Nullriver and later maintained by RipDev, first released in summer 2007 and maintained until summer 2009. Installer allowed users to install third-party applications into the iPhone's Applications directory where native applications are kept. Users could install applications from a variety of sources (over Wi-Fi or UMTS) provided by software developers, directly into the iPhone without requiring a computer.[3] Users could browse lists of applications inside Installer to find ones they wanted to install.[4] In June 2009, RipDev dropped support for Installer in favor of developing a different package manager and installer named Icy.

In 2011 Installer 4 was ported to iOS 4+ by Infini Dev, however the package was just a slightly modified version of the last release by Ripdev. As a response, Ripdev reopened their Installer repository for Installer.

Infini Dev have worked on a number of projects over the years, most notably: Icy, a DPKG package manager released by Ripdev. Infini Dev released several versions of Icy and maintained it up to iOS 9. In 2011, Infini Dev released Lima, a safari-based Cydia alternative that received widespread coverage.
