Inverness Highlands South is a census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,542, up from 5,781 in 2000.

Inverness Highlands South is located in eastern Citrus County at 28°47′58″N 82°19′50″W / 28.79944°N 82.33056°W / 28.79944; -82.33056 (28.799492, -82.330549), along the southern border of the city of Inverness, the county seat. The western edge of the CDP runs along the border of Withlacoochee State Forest.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.6 square miles (14.6 km2), of which 0.012 square miles (0.03 km2), or 0.21%, is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,781 people, 2,557 households, and 1,792 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,024.6 people per square mile (395.8/km²). There were 2,747 housing units at an average density of 486.8/sq mi (188.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.83% White, 1.73% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.95% of the population.
