The Iqra University is a private university primarily located in Defence residential area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The university has additional campuses in other parts of the city as well as in other cities, Islamabad and Peshawar.
Founded as Asian Management Institute (AMI) in 1998 by a group of Karachi-based industrialists, the university was renamed as "Iqra University" after granted university status in 2002 by HEC. The university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies programmes in engineering, film studies, management sciences, administration, and related social and natural sciences disciplines. Recently, Iqra University inaugurated it's North Campus named as Iqra University North Campus
It is one of the notable private institution of higher learning and currently ranked in among top-ten institution for "business category" by the HEC in 2012. In addition, the university is noted as being the largest employer of doctorate holders as faculty. Also, the university has a largest research publication output than any other higher learning institution of the country.
Its owner and Chancellor is an American businessman Hunain Lakhani, Vice Chancellor is U.A.N, Retired Civil Servant Government of Pakistan and Registrar is Dr. Syed Akif Hasan.
IQRA University was 'ranked at No. 10 in Business category as per Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) rankings 2012.
