Jade Hurley OAM (Born John Hurley 17th June 1943) is an Australian vocalist and pianist. Hurley is known for his hits "How I Lied", "Down in the Riverina" and "Another Saturday Night". He is best remembered for his role on The Mike Walsh Show.
Hurley started his career at the age of 14 with his first band 'The Rockin' Rebles' in Sydney, New South Wales Australia. He soon went solo with the help of Johnny O'Keefe with his appearances on television and live performances he gained popularity with the young and old.
Hurley's earlier singles were usually of his own original material, notably How I Lied, where his confident country-pop vocals nicely combined with the melodic and rhythmic feel of the current beat era. With the exception of Gold And Silver, Jade Hurley's other charting songs were all his own compositions: My Baby Judy, I'm Ashamed Of You and Down In The Riverina. Although over the years Jade has changed over to country music his live performances always include the rock favorites that Hurley is known for.
He continues to tour Australia in his distinctive motorhome, in 2008 he broke attendance records at the Tamworth Country Music Festival when 1550 people turned up to his show.
John Hurley was nicknamed ‘Jade’ by rocker Johnny O’Keefe in the '60s because he wore bright green gloves. With the fingers cut out, when he played the piano.
Hurley was awarded the highly prestigious Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his contribution and hard work within the entertainment industry encouraging and nurturing young talent, and for his tireless performances and appearances over many years in aid of charitable organisations including The Arthritis Foundation, The Heart Foundation, Camp Quality & The Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
