Joaquim Forn i Chiariello (Barcelona, 1 April 1964) is a Catalan politician and lawyer, who was the Minister of the Interior of Catalonia, the department in charge of the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Corps of Firefighters of Catalonia, traffic control and emergency services.
Joaquim Forn was born in 1964 in Barcelona. As a teen he studied in the Lycée Français de Barcelone, a reputated school that avoided the Spanish francoist education. Then he studied a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Barcelona and, after graduating, he started his career in a law firm. In 1989 he was part of Acció Olímpica the group that organized the campaign Freedom for Catalonia during the Barcelona Olympic Games of 1992.
In 1999 he was elected as councillor of Barcelona by Convergence and Union. And from 2007 to 2011 he was the spokesman of the municipal group. In 2011 Convergence and Union won the elections in Barcelona and Forn became the first deputy mayor and head of the presidency and security, spokesman of the town hall, president of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, vicepresident of the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità and member of the board of the Metropolitan Area. From 2011 to 2015 he became the right hand of Xavier Trias, the mayor of Barcelona, due to his conciliatory nature.
After the municipal elections of May 2015, he revalidated the act and became the spokesman of the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in Barcelona. In July 2017, President Carles Puigdemont appointed him as Minister of the Interior of Catalonia replacing Jordi Jané.
