KMXZ-FM is an adult contemporary radio station that serves Tucson, Arizona. KMXZ broadcasts on the frequency of 94.9 MHz and uses the branding of Mix FM. KMXZ is owned by E.W. Scripps Company and consistently places in the top 4 radio stations in the Arbitron ratings. The station was formerly known as KJYK. It is based from studios co-located with television station KGUN-TV in Tucson, and a transmitter site is at Tower Peak in the Tucson Mountains.
Programs include the "Bobby Rich Morning Mix" and the syndicated love show Deliliah at night. The John Tesh Radio Show is featured on Sunday mornings and in the hours on weekdays.
KMXZ-FM has been broadcasting since 1988. KJYK-FM 94.9 was an Easy Listening station in the 1980s. KJYK was owned by Citadel Broadcasting, who sold it to Duchossois Communications. Journal would later acquire the station from Duchossois.
KJYK was known as "K Joy FM 95", and was one of the stations that carried Chuck Cecil's "Swinging Years" for many years in Tucson. KJYK 94.9 FM switched calls to KMXZ-FM 94.9 and changed formats in 1988. They started out as Soft AC station and changed their call letters to KKLD better known as "Cloud 95" and then as "Cloud 94.9", in 1988 and later evolved into Hot AC "Mix FM" in the mid-1990s.
