Kegalu Vidyalaya ("කෑගලු විද්යාලය") is a primary and secondary school for boys in Kegalle District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka. It was established on 14 February 1942. The school is nationalized and under control of the central government. Currently the school accommodates nearly 3500 students and approximately 200 staff.
On the 14th of February 1942, at 3.00 PM. Kegalu Vidyalaya was opened to the public by Don Baron Jayatilaka and Gunapala Malalasekara, P. De S. Kularathne, E.W. Adhikaram, H.W. Amarasooriya and Rev.Naradha Thero.
Initially, Kegalu Vidyalaya started as an English speaking Buddhist mixed school. Later on, government regulations of the national schools prompted the language to change to Sinhalese-. In addition, these regulations had the school exclude female students, becoming a boys' school.
Currently Kegalu Vidyalaya offers education in both Sinhalese and English.
The students are divided into four Houses:
The house names are derived from national heroes of Sri Lanka . The houses compete annually in major games/sports to win the annual inter-house games.
