Lancieux (Breton: Lanseeg, Gallo: Lansioec) is a commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany in northwestern France.
Inhabitants of Lancieux are called lancieutins or lancieutains in French.
The Scottish poet and writer Robert W. Service known as the "Bard of the Yukon" used to spend summers in Lancieux from 1913 until his death in 1958. He was deeply affectionate of the town of Lancieux and its marvellous seaside. In many occasions, he generously gifted the town: for the school, the war memorial,...Robert W. Service is buried in the town cemetery.
The town of Lancieux has organized several recognitions to the memory of Robert W. Service. One of its streets has been called Robert Service Street. On July 13, 1990, a commemorative tablet has been unveiled at the Lancieux Office du Tourisme by the daughter of the poet: Iris Service. An evening of celebration was organized afterwards with a dinner attended by many guests from Scotland and Yukon. A few years later, on May 18, 2002 the school of Lancieux in Brittany took the name of "École Robert W. Service". Charlotte Service-Longépé the great granddaughter and the granddaughter of the poet attended the dedication ceremony and made a speech. Since 2000, the town of Lancieux and Whitehorse are sister cities thanks to Robert W. Service's life and work in both places; The two cities honour their friendship by flying the flag of their Sister City once each summer.
