Leonard Sharp (born May 7, 1924) alias Leo Sharp and El Tata is an American World War II veteran, world-renowned horticulturist; and drug dealer for a branch of the Sinaloa cartel.
Sharp was born in Michigan City, Indiana. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan. He fought in World War II and received a Bronze Star Medal for his service.
In later life Sharp became a world-renowned horticulturist and florist, known for hybridizing popular new breeds of flowers; the daylily "Hemerocallis 'Siloam Leo Sharp'" is named for him.
In his 80s he began smuggling cocaine for the Sinaloa Cartel across the United States, mostly in Detroit, Michigan. He gave more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine during his years of dealing.
In 2011 he was arrested by the Michigan state police, in possession of 200 pounds of cocaine. He pleaded not guilty in October 2013. He was sentenced to three years in prison in May 2014. His defence stated that Sharp has dementia, and will do poorly in prison.
Sharp, 89 when captured, is believed to be the oldest drug mule in the World.
