Letras Latinas


Letras Latinas is a literary organization based in South Bend, Indiana and Washington, D.C. dedicated to enhancing the visibility, appreciation, and study of Latino literature.

The literary program of the Institute for Latino Studies at University of Notre Dame the current director of Letras Latinas is Francisco Aragón

Letras Latinas sponsors two awards for emerging writers: the Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize and the Letras Latinas/Red Hen Poetry Prize. The Andrés Montoya Prize supports the publication of a first book by a Latino or Latina poet in collaboration with University of Notre Dame Press. The Letras Latinas/Red Hen Poetry Prize supports the publication of a second or third book by a Latino or Latina poet in partnership with Red Hen Press.

An online digital archive of video interviews with Latino and Latina writers around the United States including William Archila, Richard Blanco, Victor Hernandez Cruz, Martín Espada, Valerie Martinez, Naomi Ayala, Brenda Cárdenas, Salvador Plascencia, Barbara Jane Reyes, Maria Melendez, Daniel Alarcón and John Phillip Santos.

A series of strategic partnerships to produce literary programming around the nation. "Latino/a Poetry Now" in collaboration with the Poetry Society of America. Other partners include the Library of Congress and the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, and the Poetry Foundation in Chicago, Illinois.
