A Life Company (Swedish: Livkompani, but usually written in its definite form; Livkompaniet) is the first company of a regiment in the Swedish Army, which is tasked with protecting the regiment commander.
Until the Defense Act of 2000, life companies had only existed at certain regiments, usually infantry and armoured regiments. In the cavalry, the equivalent of a life company would be a Livskvadron, Life Squadron. During the 20th century, life companies trained recruits into becoming platoon or company commanders.
As of 2016, Life companies are present in the following units:
Following reorganization measures in 2012, the Södermanland Group of the Home Guard was outfitted with a life company, inheriting it from its now deactivated Army counterpart, the Södermanland Regiment. The reorganization made the Södermanland Group the only unit of the Home Guard outfitted with a life company.
