"Life in Harmony" is a song by Japanese recording artist Misia from her tenth studio album, Soul Quest. The song was released as a digital single on September 15, 2010. A four-track CD single was later released as a first press bonus to Misia's Hoshizora no Live VI Encore 2010: International Year of Biodiversity concert DVD and digitally released on November 10, 2010.
"Life in Harmony" was written by Misia, composed by Japan-based Korean composer yellowRubato (Hwang Hyun) and the production was handled by Canadian producer David Foster. The collaboration between Misia and David Foster came about as Foster was looking for an Asian singer to participate in his latest compilation album David Foster Presents Love, Again. Upon hearing Misia's voice, which he hailed as "comparable to Mariah Carey and Celine Dion" and "a national treasure," Foster decided on working with Misia instantly.
As honorary ambassador for the 10th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Misia was inspired by the COP10 slogan "Life in harmony, into the future" and wrote the lyrics to reflect a message of unity between all life forms. Recording for the song was held in Los Angeles on August 4, 2010.
In late August, Ahmed Djoghlaf, the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, met with Misia in Japan where he listened to the song and requested it be made the official COP10 song.
All lyrics written by Misia; all music composed by yellowRubato.
