Maine is a village in Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the Wausau, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,337 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Mount View and Taegesville are located partially in the town.
In December 2015, the town of Maine voted to become a village.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 42.4 square miles (109.8 km2), of which 42.0 square miles (108.7 km2) is land and 0.42 square miles (1.1 km2), or 1.00%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,407 people, 842 households, and 721 families residing in the town. The population density was 56.8 people per square mile (21.9/km²). There were 877 housing units at an average density of 20.7 per square mile (8.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.46% White, 0.04% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.42% of the population.
There were 842 households out of which 37.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.8% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.3% were non-families. 10.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.08.
