"Man Shouldn’t Lie" is the nineteenth episode of the seventh season and the 163th episode overall of the American sitcom Modern Family. It aired on April 13, 2016 on American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The episode is directed by Gail Mancuso and written by Andy Gordon.

Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Manny (Rico Rodriguez) both receive a lesson about making new friends and discover new things. For Jay, it’s when Gloria (Sofía Vergara) invites a couple who he does not know and instantanely befriends the husband who offers to escort him into a hockey game. On his way home, Jay is forced to admit to Gloria that she was right and then to follow her in an Ethiopian restaurant. In Manny’s case, it’s when he becomes addicted to cartoons watched by Joe.

Claire (Julie Bowen) picks up a dog while driving her car and she and the kids become very attracted to it. Only Phil (Ty Burrell) does not know about that, because Claire refuses that the dog might become theirs. Phil thinks that Claire wants to leave him and a series of circumstances lets him think that it will probably be the case. When Phil discovers the dog, he says that it’s a neighbor’s animal and also that he wants a cockatoo.

Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) rent the upstairs apartment to an evangelist rock band. They think that a member might be gay and encourage him to open to them about his sexuality. But the member is actually straight, and misses his girlfriend, so he leaves the band without telling it to his friends, since couple relations are banned in this group. A guilty Cameron offers to replace him which the band gladly accepts but the rock musicians are revealed to be intolerant about gay and lesbian people who are in relationship together while performing during a concert on stage, causing Cameron to panic during the performance.
