Route 128 (originally named the Circumferential Highway, alternatively named the Yankee Division Highway for the 26th Infantry Division) is a state highway in Massachusetts, maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Spanning 57 miles (92 km) miles, it serves as a beltway around Boston, and has been heavily and frequently rerouted since its original designation in the 1920s.
Presently, its southern terminus exists at Interstate 93 (I-93), Interstate 95 (I-95), and Route 1 in Canton, where it begins running concurrently with Route 1 and I-95. Route 128 completes its concurrency with Route 1 in Dedham, although its dual-designation with I-95 exists for a substantial portion of its length. Together, Route 128 and I-95 intersect with I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike) in Weston; Route 20 in Waltham; Route 2 in Lexington; Route 3 in Burlington (which briefly runs concurrently with them within the town); and I-93 and Route 1 once more in Reading and Lynnfield, respectively, before Route 128 and I-95 split in Peabody. Independently, Route 128 continues towards its northern terminus at Route 127A in Gloucester.
