The inaugural women's modern pentathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney was held on 1 October. Three venues were used: The Dome and Exhibition Complex (fencing and shooting), Sydney International Aquatic Centre (swimming) and Sydney Baseball Stadium (horse-riding and cross-country running).
Stephanie Cook from Great Britain won the gold medal in the first-ever women's event, with a score of 5,318 points.
The modern pentathlon consisted of five events, with all five held in one day.
