Movimento Italiano Genitori

The Italian Parents Movement (Italian: Movimento Italiano Genitori, known also by the acronym Moige) is an Italian non-profit, lobbyist, advocacy organization in Rome, Italy. Its mission is the protection of children and claim more rights for the parents.

For over 19 years, it is on the part of parents and children, giving concrete answers to their requests for help. For this, it promotes initiatives to counter major social emergencies such as bullying, pedophilia, drugs and alcohol and to educate children to face the challenges of every day, from the road to the internet.

Among the first activities of the association, the establishment of the TV Observatory (now Osservatorio Media ), a qualified team of industry experts watching television shows, in response to the growing need to protect children from too little television watching television The rights and the sensitivity of its small audience.

Since then, the themes and fronts have expanded to cover almost every area that affects the daily lives of children and parents. Presented today in 35 Italian provinces with a network of more than 50,000 parents. As of now , the main purpose is the safeguard of children and parents rights in the social life, the promotion of the figure of parents as fundamental element of society and the responsible use of parental authority.

In the years the association has triggered many criticism on his alleged numerical representativeness on Italian population and about his points of view on sexuality issues, homosexuality and censorship.

In various occasions the Moige was opposed to many initiatives to claim more rights in favour of the LGBT communities, in particularly regarding marriage and adoption and has declared to accept the therapies promoted by Joseph Nicolosi and his National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality, with a series of three lessons about sex education, claiming that homosexuality can be cured because it is not derived from genetic or hormonal imbalances but by psychological factors called "acquired factors" and treatable with psychotherapy, in contrast with the ethical code of the National Order of Psychologists which states that "the psychologist may not offer oneself to start any 'reparative therapy' of sexual orientation of a person".
