Nanping (Chinese: 南平; pinyin: Nánpíng) is a third-tierprefecture-level city in northwestern Fujian Province, China. It borders Ningde City to the east, Sanming City to the south, and the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi to the north and west respectively. Part of the famous Wuyi Mountains range is located in this prefecture. Its population was 2,645,549 at the 2010 census whom 467,875 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made up of Yanping urban district.
Nanping is a picturesque old city, located on a hill near the fall of the Jianxi (建溪) Brook into the Min, and surrounded by high stone walls. These high walls were used to prevent artillery fire. They formed a considerable obstacle to anything hostile in past conflicts. The city flower is lily.

Nanping, similar to the rest of the province, has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa), with short and mild winters, and long, very hot and humid summers. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 10.6 °C (51.1 °F) in January to 29.6 °C (85.3 °F) in July, and the annual mean is 20.41 °C (68.7 °F). Rainfall averages more than 200 mm (7.9 in) per month from March to June before gradually tapering off until early winter. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 24% in March to 57% in July, the city receives 1,721 hours of bright sunshine annually, with summer being the sunniest time of the year; spring and late winter are especially overcast and damp.
