Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is a 2012 musical adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, with music and libretto by Dave Malloy and directed by Rachel Chavkin. It is based on Volume 2, Part 5 of War and Peace, focusing on Natasha's affair with Anatole, and Pierre's search for meaning in his life.
The musical premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in November 2016, after its premiere at the Ars Nova in 2012, two stagings at the Meatpacking District and Theater District in Manhattan in 2013, and a remounting at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2015.
The musical received positive reviews, particularly for Phillipa Soo's, Denée Benton's and Josh Groban's leading performances, score and direction.
