The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) (Thai: สํานักข่าวกรองเเห่งชาติ) ; is the Thailand's counter-intelligence and security agency under the Office of the Prime Minister. Their Headquarters located in Paruskavan Palace, Bangkok.
National Intelligence Agency happened during the development of the Intelligence Organization over worldwide. So that Royal Thai Government by Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram foresee that Thailand needs to have an Intelligence Agency to counter-intelligence and security agency in normal way and in secret way.
So the government has established Department of Administrative Intelligence under Cabinet of Thailand on 1 January 1954 by appointment Phao Sriyanond to be first Director.
On 2 December 1959 the Royal Thai Government by Prime Minister Sarit Thanarat has been renamed to Department of Central Intelligence and renamed again to National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in the Government of Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda until now.
