Pedra Badejo is a town in the eastern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is situated on the east coast, 25 km north of the island capital Praia, also it is southeast of Calheta de São Miguel and east of Assomada. It is the seat of Santa Cruz municipality. At the 2010 census, the town had 9,859 inhabitants, and its elevation is 35 m. In 2010, it was elevated to a city. Pedra Badejo has reached over 10,000 and is the third most populated place on the island, in 1990, the town was the second most populated place on the island.

Pedra Badejo is connected with the road running between Praia and Tarrafal via Calheta de São Miguel and is bypassed by the island's only tunnel. South of Pedra Bajedo is the road with Assomada running within Ribeira Seca as well as the west of the island.

During the Ice Age, its sea level was a kilometer east of its current shore. Along with the island, the area was first discovered and sighted in 1460 by António da Noli.

The area of the eastern part of the island was first inhabited between the early and mid-16th century. Shrubs dominated much of the area before its settlers came along with the forest.

The place which was a settlement was mentioned as "S. Iago" in the 1747 French/Dutch map by Jacques Nicolas Bellin.

The city was called "Santiago Maior" until 1975. This name is still common today.

Around 2008, construction of the island's only tunnel began and was competed in 2010 and thus bypassed the center Pedra Badejo with a bypass road and runs in the south of the city, an area that continues its housing and infrastructure developments today, it also cutted most residential streets in the southwest portion.

There are a lot of shops in Main Street and in the Market Place where a sightworthy monument of a local musician is to be seen. Many daytrippers from Praia visit the beach which is close to the center of the city. A former health center close to the beach was transformed into a hotel.

Pedra Badejo has a small port especially its old port, the port is used for fishing and yacht uses. In one portion of the port, a German company plans to construct a small yacht next to its old port. Southeast of town is Ribeira Seca which empties into the Atlantic. Pedra Badejo has at least five churches: the modern Catholic Church is in the new, upper part of the city, and the smaller New Apostolic Church is in Main Street. A Presbyterian Church, a Nazarene Church, and a Baptist church (meeting at the Baptist Theological Seminary facility at 53 Achada Fátima) also serve the community.
