Petralia Sottana (Sicilian: Pitralìa Suttana) is a town and comune in the Province of Palermo, in the island of Sicily, Italy. The main characters in Emanuele Crialese's 2006 film of Sicilian immigration to America, Nuovomondo, come from the town of Petralia.
The Madonie Mountains cover the commune. It includes the "Fractions" (frazioni) Piano Battaglia, Landro, Recattivo and Tudia.
The commune is on the border between the provinces of Palermo and Caltanissetta (CL). It is bounded by the communes of Alimena, Blufi, Caltanissetta (CL), Castelbuono, Castellana Sicula, Geraci Siculo, Isnello, Marianopoli (CL), Petralia Soprana, Polizzi Generosa, Resuttano (CL), Santa Caterina Villarmosa (CL), Villalba (CL).
The coat of arms shows three lilies, referring to Lilium Petrae, a possible etymology of the town name.
