The 2016 Portland mayoral election was held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 to elect the 53rd mayor of Portland, Oregon. Incumbent mayor Charlie Hales did not seek a second term, and the primary race was won by Ted Wheeler, who garnered greater than 54% of the vote. Jules Bailey was the runner-up to Wheeler, only receiving 16% of the vote.
Municipal elections in Oregon are non-partisan. The non-partisan primary was held on May 17, 2016, with a November 8 runoff scheduled in the event that no candidate received a simple majority.
Fifteen candidates appeared on the primary ballot; those deemed "viable" by Oregonian reporter Brad Schmidt, and who were named in a December 2015 poll, were Jules Bailey and Ted Wheeler.

The deadline for withdrawing from the race was March 11, 2016. Incumbent mayor Charlie Hales was widely seen as the frontrunner in the election, announcing his bid for reelection in March 2015. In an unexpected move in October 2015, however, Hales announced he would drop his reelection bid and focus on running the city during his final year in office.
