The settlement name etymology means the beach located in a lower area. It is also a small beach and features a small circular bay.
Praia Baixo is linked with the road connecting the northeast of the island and includes Pedra Badejo and Calheta de São Miguel.
It forms a part of the touristic reference in the municipality of São Domingos with its small beautiful beach and a small curcil bay which offers a nice hospitality. It presents excellent conditions for practices of marine sport including surfing, windsurfing, diving and swimming.
